02; serious motivation

As I’m sitting here with my organic, homemade mint tea (a few mint leaves my dad picked from the garden and ¬†hot water), there are a few things that I am realizing. One, I need an herb garden like my grandma’s when I have a permanent location, and two, I’m pretty good at starting things but very bad at completing unless I have a serious motivator. For example, this past quarter I took 22 units. My motivator? Cum lade when I graduate – all things considering I only had two more quarters to attempt the high marks. And guess what? At least I know that when I put my head to something, it works out. This quarter I had a 4.0 ūüôā

Anyways, since I’ve green home, I’ve had this crazy hankering to be fit again. And I realized that, even though i have eaten reasonably healthy and have done some exercising, its not regimented enough to get me where I need to be.

And so, here is my list of “I’m Bribing Myself with Gifts so I can Loose Weight, While Stimulating the Economy”… Yeah. Needs a better name.

*for every 10lb lost, make a bracelet commemorating the achievement. I’m starting at 180, and am going to be getting this bracelet done. Picture to come ūüôā

  • CW: 180
  • Gw1: 175 – 1 new CD for working out
  • Gw2: 170 – Yoga mat holder
  • Gw3: 165 – cover for nexus
  • Gw4: 160 – “train like a beast, look like a beauty” top or something similar
  • Gw5: 155 – Concert or musical tickets
  • Gw6: 150 – one new workout outfit (top, bra, and pants), 2 CDs
  • Gw7: 145 – HP series in EBook form
  • Gw8: 140 – hair cut, color, and Mani OR pedi
  • Gw9: 135 – new pair of jeans, one new set of workout clothes if needed
  • Gw10: 130 – ¬†full body massage/spa day
  • Gw11: maintain 130 for 2 months – new pair of running shoes, one new workout outfit (top, bra, pants), one new complete outfit (Top, shoes, bottoms, outerwear, undergarments)
  • UGW1/Gw12: 120 – $200 shopping spree (anything)
  • Gw13: maintain 120 for 3 months – weekend getaway

Yeah. I think with this kinda motivation, I can do it ūüėÄ

Re/boot

Okay, so I admit I’m a desert-er of sorts when the times get tough. Or, actually, when I’m just too busy to consistently find inspiration/time/a desire to do anything for an extended amount of time. Thankfully, it’s the summer. Goodbye 22 unit quarters! It’s a time for a 9-5 job, a steady paycheck, and evenings to myself.

Which, thankfully, brings to me to here and now. About three months ago I bought myself a juicer in hopes that I could garner enough willpower to do a 7 day juice cleanse. But alas! It ended up a 1 day event, with a few mornings thrown in for good measure. However, as the title of the post suggests, this is both a reboot for the blog and a reboot for my new healthier lifestyle.  Notice that I wrote lifestyle, instead of diet, because 1) it sounds more permanent 2) has a better connotation to it and 3) just sounds lovelier.

So, on to the so-called lifestyle change, I juiced last night:

Super juice!

If you can’t see – two carrots, one small cucumber, half an apple, and a handful of baby kale yielded about one serving of 12 ounces of delicious juice. For those that want to start juicing – or have and just stopped – I highly recommend my¬†concoction. It’s sweet and refreshing, and¬†definitely¬†doesn’t feel like you’re giving anything up. If you want, and I did, add a knob of ginger to boost up the drink. Gateway drink? Me thinks so.

So I juiced up two mason jars, had one for breakfast (super cold with extra ice) and it lasted me from 8AM-2PM. Then I had lunch:

(to be fair, I only had half of those pita chips, and the sandwich like thing you see is half of one of Costco’s chicken bakes. For the love of all things, if you get one of them ever, eat half. It’s 810 calories!)

And dinner came around and my mom and I teamed up to make one of my favorite dishes, ever РSteamed teriyaki salmon with vegetables.

It’s not cooked yet, but it’s still pretty!

YUM! The salmon and vegetables are bundled in foil (or parchment paper) and baked. When you take it out of oven, everything is steamed to perfection. Interested?

And, of course, while waiting for the food to finish in the oven, juiced for tomorrow…

Squash, carrots, cucumbers, apples, and kale

With left over kale – my brother went to the Farmer’s market and brought back a lot of produce – I made a warm kale salad with roasted beets and squash. Picture tomorrow!

And now, it’s time to exercise before my night activities.

Ciao lovelies! I promise to write more often, seeing that blogging my journey to a healthy lifestyle is actually one of my main motivators of change – there’s a sense of¬†permanency¬†to document the journey. After all, if I make it to the end within a reasonable amount of time, there’ll be a lot of goodies. More on that later.

30DC: 12 + 13

Hi, Ho!

DAY 012: Five Guys Whom You Find Attractive.

insert smutty laugh– In fear of sounding like a total douche-ette and only caring about looks (hard, I know!) I’ll hit five different guys on the basis of the 10 traits of a real man. As it would be too easy to add my own boyfriend to this list, and not all together that fun in the spirit of this thirty day challenge, the men listed below have to hit at least two of the¬†qualities¬†on the AskMen’s list. Personally, this makes everything¬†so much more¬†challenging.

01: Tim Burton – maybe not the most dashing man in the world, but certainly, he is a creative genius and all together one of my favorite directors. His creative intellect alone could be the basis on my on-going attraction to him.

traits: made his own fortune, focused, does not look like a woman

02: Abraham Lincoln РFavorite president, ever. And he could have been a vampire slayer? COOL!

traits: focused, knows the importance of family, word is his bond, strives to be a role model, made his own fortune, can defend himself

o3: Robert Pattinson – say what you may of him, but I personally feel that the grace he took (at least in the public eye) is quite commendable. Loved him since HPGF days, and it really doesn’t hurt that he’s British, of course.

traits: can defend himself, doesn’t gossip, word is his bond, is strong, knows the importance of family, focused

04: Eric Northman – yes, I realize that he is a title character in the True Blood/The Southern Vampire Series, but did you honestly think I’d not include at least one hunk that fit the bill on this list?! I fell in love with his character as the TV series progressed…¬†whereas¬†his true nature is shown in spurts or in flashbacks, I think there’s a lot of depth of “real man” in his character. Alexander Skarsgard – the actor that portrays Northman – is cute to boot too (for some reason I’ve been on a Swedish guy rampage!). Preferred him more as the lost-loving type versus the angry-possessive, but I can’t complain.

traits: can defend himself, doesn’t gossip, word is his bond, is strong, knows the importance of family, focused, does not look like a woman, keeps his house in order

05: Hugh Jackman – in a age of failed¬†marriages, Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness have strove onwards and forwards. Doesn’t hurt one bit that he’s played Wolverine (X-Men being own of my favorit super-hero series), is a¬†philanthropist, and has¬†triumphed¬†both movie and theater stages. Would he be considered a¬†Renaissance¬†man in my eyes? Quite possibly.

traits: can defend himself, is strong, knows the importance of family, focused, does not look like a woman

Day 13: your opinion about your body and how you feel about it

I think, at the core, every person in somewhat insecure about their bodies, especially if they were to be, let’s say, naked in front of¬†their significant other.

I know I am.

But, for the most part, I’m pretty happy with my body. Although it would be nice not to have the back pain¬†associated¬†with the weight that I’ve gained in the last three years… I’m not entirely unsatisfied. However, my “coming to terms” about my more… curvy body is still not a reason for my not to get back into shape — especially since I’m planning on backpacking to several places before I’m 30.

So the moral of the store? I’m happy with the way I look, but for practicality, I need to get into better shape.

Hypocrite, much?

First Impressions (are usually lasting)

If first impressions are the deal breaker for most, then, perhaps, it’s best to get this post out of the way.

What exactly are my hopes for this site? Well, first of all, to be¬†lasting. So many times I’ve falling into the pit-fall of creating a blog only to discard it a few days later. Hopefully, not this time! And my other goals?

– weight tracker (ugh. not looking forward to this, but alas, it needs to be done)
– reading & book review lister
– diy project tracker
– all around ‘blog

Sounds simple, right? Of course it is!

Or, at least I hope so!
